How do I send a package?

Click “Ship it” on the menu bar and then enter all the requested information for the package and its destination. Once you’ve entered all the pertinent information click “Price My Package”.  Select a carrier, arrival date, and price that fits your needs and click “Send my Package”. Which carriers does ZipShipit use to ship packages?

ZipShipit currently has relationships with United Parcel Service (UPS) & the United States Postal Service (USPS). We will be adding a number of other national and regional US based carriers and International carriers soon. Stay tuned as we work hard to bring your even more savings and convenience.

Which carrier is the best?

All three are great. Selecting the right carrier for your package depends on importance of the item you are sending, the speed of delivery, value of the item, and sometimes the size of the item. We’re one big happy family, everyone has strengths and weaknesses. It’s best you figure that out for yourself.

What types of items are prohibited by ZipShipit carrier partners?

No hazardous materials, alcohol, tobacco, guns, gun parts, ammunition, or any explosive materials are allowed to ship via ZipShipit carrier partners.

Can I schedule a pickup?

Yes, for both UPS and USPS you can schedule a pick up (minimal additional charges may apply depending on location) or depending on carrier, you can drop it off at a carrier approved location or post office and save some even more.

Can I ship dry ice?

Sorry, dry ice is a hazardous material that can explode if not packed correctly. So, it’s best you have a trained individual package that for you.

How much is my package insured for?

In shipping, packages are not insured, but are covered for loss or damage up to $100 unless you declared a higher value.

If my package is lost or damaged am I automatically qualified for the value I declared?

If lost then, most likely yes. However if damaged then the carrier will inspect the package to make sure it was packed according to “carrier guidelines”, if not then the claim may be denied.

What is NOT covered in case of loss or damage?

Any documents, data CD’s/DVD’s, Cash, Gift Cards, Money Orders, Checks, or any type of currency is not covered in case of loss or damage.

What happens if a package is lost or damaged during transit?

DAMAGE: If the package looks like it could have been damaged during transit, take pictures of the UNOPENED box as well as after opening to show the packaging and damaged items. Then please call UPS at 1-800-PICK-UPS (I-800-742-5877) and let them know there is a damaged delivery. Next, on the ZipShipit website click on “Support” and “Submit a Claim”. Enter all the necessary information and then click “Submit”.

LOST: If there is a lost or untrackable package please click on “Support” and “Submit a Claim”.

Enter all the necessary information and then click “Submit”.

How long does claims processing take?

Once you have submitted the claim form on the support page and all the necessary supporting documentation the carriers usually take 2-4 weeks to process the claims. To expedite the process please make sure you submit all information including pictures of the damaged goods, proof of purchase receipts for the items, and copies of the shipping receipts in a timely manner so the process goes smoothly.

Why does the claims process have to be done through ZipShipit?

Though you are our customer, we are the carrier’s customer therefore, the carriers will only discuss package details with the ZipShipit team.

What happens if a package is delivered after the guaranteed delivery date or time?

This depends on a number of things including which carrier was selected, when the carrier received the package, which delivery option you selected, and any weather issues or circumstances not in the carrier’s control. Late delivery claims MUST be filed within 10 days of expected delivery date.

With that said, go to the “Support” page and select “File a Late Package Claim”. Fill out the necessary information and we will submit the claim to the carrier. If the claim is approved you should receive a check from the carrier within 10-20 days.

What does packaging according to carrier standards mean?

Packaging is an art and science. Therefore basically the box or packaging you send your item in must be in good condition, sturdy 200 lbs. to 275 lbs. tested, bubble wrapped, and for fragile items sometimes even double boxed. For best practices in packaging take a look at our Packaging 101 page.

What are your general packaging guidelines?

Depending on the value and ability to replace the item(s) in case of damage, packaging should be done so that items can withstand drops from as high as 4 feet. If your pack your items with that much confidence you should be fine.

How do I package fragile items?

Please take a look at our “Packaging 101” page for further details.

The address is not validating…what do I do?

ZipShipit uses USPS directly to validate its addresses. This process allows us to provide you, our customers, with a much more reliable and stable connection to the Postal Service without relying on any other software.

To smooth out the process, you can run a U.S. address through USPS’s address validation system (https://tools.usps.com/go/ZipLookupAction_input) to catch any errors.

If you do see any invalid addresses, you can edit the recipient address on ‘Step 1’ of label creation, by clicking ‘Review’ in the validation pop up and making the necessary changes.

Here are some of the most common causes for an invalid address:

  • “Name” field only has one name (must have at least 2 – first and last name, or 2-part company name)
  • Missing suite/apartment/unit number
  • Missing house/building number or incomplete street name
  • Use of non-English characters like “ñ” or “街頭”
  • Suite/apartment/unit number/etc on the wrong line, should be on ‘Street 2’, not ‘Street 1’
  • The street name is misspelled or missing information
    • Ex: ‘Woodburt’ instead of ‘Woodburn’
    • Ex: ‘Cavanaugh’ instead of ‘Cavanaugh St.’
  • Street name and suffix all one word, should be two words
    • Ex: ‘Hill St’ instead of ‘HillSt’
  • Too much information is included in street address
    • Ex: ‘8550 NW 51st Street Lauderhill’ instead of ‘8550 NW 51st Street’
  • Company name included in ‘Street 1’
    • Ex: ‘Company Name LLC 2269 Chestnut St’ instead of ‘2269 Chestnut St’
  • Using symbols instead of writing out words
    • Ex: ‘Lewis & Clark Rd’ instead of ‘Lewis and Clark Rd’
  • Abbreviations used when they shouldn’t be
    • Ex: ‘Co Rd 704’ instead of ‘Country Road 704’
    • Ex: ‘ACR 425’ instead of ‘Country Road A 425’
  • Missing the 4-digit zip code extension
    • Ex: ‘10009’ instead of ‘10009-4153’

If you’re still not seeing what the error is, trying Googling the address, and compare how the address appears in Google Maps to how it looks in ZipShipit. Ultimately, if you cannot determine the correct address, you may need to contact your customer to verify the address with them and IF they say that it is correct and they have received packages at this address…then it may be okay to send.

Military addresses can be tricky. If you’re having trouble validating a military address, you can find the correct formats for APO, FPO, and DPO addresses here.

If the format is correct and the customer confirms the address is valid, the issue might be with the address validation system. We use USPS’ validation tool and their database is usually a month out of date.

Please note that ZipShipit does not provide verification for international addresses.

Which carriers does ZipShipit use to ship packages?
